22 October 2013 – While building my printer I battled to find an affordable, good quality hotend. So, I decided to make my own. I followed the design instructions of the J Head. I had to purchase the PEEK, PTFE and brass in lengths resulting me having material to make quite a few. We made these for 3mm and 1.75mm filament with a 0.4mm nozzle hole. I have not tested the 1.75 as I do not have filament but the 3mm prints beautifully! We have also succeeded in making nozzle holes down to 0.3mm but I am not sure if this is a good idea.
I will sell these in a kit for R630:
- Brass nozzle.
- PEEK holder with PTFE inner sleeve.
- Heater resistor – 5W 5R6.
- Copper shim.
- 4x crimp ferrules.
- 4x High temp heatshrink.
You bend the copper shim in a ‘C’ shape and place it in the hole around the thermistor to keep it in place and in contact with the brass. The high temp heatshrink is rated to the same temperature as PEEK.
