Finally our CNC arrived!

Posted by Ignatius Havemann on November 01, 2013  /   Posted in Blog

1 November 2013 – After a lot of research and budgeting between building or buying a CNC we ended up ordering a CNC mill from China early August. Mainly for cutting wood and plastics. It has a 1. 3m x 2.5m x 200mm bed with a 3kW water cooled spindle. We also ordered a dust collector and tool height sensor. Not being sure where we would put it once it arrived we opted not to get the vacuum bed as they could only supply us with a 3 phase system. I did some research and building a vacuum bed does not seem too difficult once we are setup in a workshop. Having some experience with Chinese machines I was a little nervous not knowing what we would find once we opened the crate…

The days were long and the ship was slow but it finally arrived in Durban October 2nd. This was my first import via sea and I made a lot of mistakes costing money, money and more money! We collected it with a trailer from Durban and couldn’t wait to see what was inside! Arriving late the afternoon in Centurion we decided to leave it till the next morning. The CNC will go to our new workshop sometime in December but for the time being it will be in my garage in Centurion. Yes mister neighbor, that is 3kW of power ripping till the early mornings! Hahahha – add evil grin here.

Now if I can only think of something to cut… stay tuned 😉
